A significant proportion of the population across the globe suffers from an allergy of some description. There is a well defined and characteristic way in which most allergic reactions develop and manifest, and understanding this is key to understanding the core features of management. Here, we outline the biomedical basis behind allergic reactions and the complete spectrum of clinical presentations.
