Atrial fibrillation is an important cause of a funny heart rhythm and may present with palpitations, shortness and fatigue. However, it may be asymptomatic and present with complications including strokes. We expamine valvular, muscular and vascular causes of atrial fibrillation and how it links to its symptoms and diagnosis. Finally, we explain the management options that include rate and rhythm control, which can be achieved through medications or interventions, as well as anticoagulation drugs.
