Multiple myeloma is a haematological malignancy of plasma cells, resulting in a dominance of one type of B cell (also known as monoclonal plasma cells). These monoclonal plasma cells can either be heavy or light chain. We explain the pathophysiology of multiple myeloma and how it links to diagnostic investigations and common symptoms.
