Urinary incontinence is defined as the loss of bladder control and this often leads to “accidents” that can be embarrassing. We explain the acute and long-term causes. Generally, incontinence is due to increase pressure pushing on the bladder, an overactive (or underactive) bladder muscle or blockage downstream of the bladder.
